The witch\u2019s new year does not begin on January 1st\u2026in fact, we\u2019re deep in the season of the soul with yule 10ish days ago and the season of Imbolc to go before we reach a fresh beginning. Cosmically and on earth, now is the time to feel deep into the feelings of rest and restoration. BUT – if you\u2019re wanting to participate in the global excitement of the new year, here\u2019s a few rituals that are both goal oriented and nourishing to your soul. It\u2019s time for a spiritual reset.<\/p>

What is a spiritual Reset?<\/h2>

A spiritual reset is used to cleanse your soul, release the burdens of the past year, and begin a new part of our journey of self-discovery and spiritual growth. If you\u2019re feeling overwhelmed with the need to set a million goals going into the new year. If you\u2019re overthinking every action you take (or don\u2019t take). If you\u2019re feeling burnout and lost. If you\u2019re feeling stuck. It might be time to slow down, go inward, and focus on creating an environment that allows you to reconnect with your soul and replenish your spiritual practices that guide you throughout the year.<\/p>

New Year Spiritual Reset Rituals:<\/h2>

  1. Journal what you\u2019re releasing from last year<\/strong>: Before we can welcome new energy into our lives, it’s essential to release the ick of the past (as much as we can with where we\u2019re currently at). Take time to reflect on the challenges, disappointments, and negative experiences of the previous year. Write them down on a piece of paper and, as a symbolic gesture, burn it (if you\u2019re not into burning it – rage rip it up). This simple act can help free your mind from the weight of the past and make room for positive energy to flow in.<\/li>\n\n
  2. Gratitude Journalin<\/strong>g<\/strong><\/a>: Now that we\u2019ve released negative energy from last year, let\u2019s focus on what we\u2019re grateful for. Allow yourself to get specific – and remember, you\u2019re allowed to include things that happened last year in your released journal entry as well as your gratitude journal (it\u2019s ok to live in the gray, or the both\/and).<\/li>\n\n
  3. Pick a Word of the Year<\/strong>: This is one of my favorite new year practices. I\u2019ve been doing this since the beginning of my spiritual awakening and I love how much the word really has been a theme throughout the year. Pick a word that you want to embody this year – don\u2019t overthink it, what\u2019s the first word that comes to mind? Once you have the word, ground yourself in the energy of this word, allow it to shape your experiences next year. Tap into the word as you\u2019re planning goals and events – how can you embody the word? My word of the year for 2023 was \u2018pleasure\u2019 and I really set my mind to having fun in my life and allowing myself to live in a more maximalist way (the year before it was \u2018peace\u2019 because I had an infant and I honestly could not imagine pushing myself to embody anything other than peace). For 2024 I\u2019ve chosen (or it\u2019s chosen me) \u2018discipline\u2019 for my word of the year. I\u2019m looking forward to following through on the commitments I made for myself around Samhain and through 2024.<\/li>\n\n
  4. Create an Altar<\/strong>: An altar serves as a beautiful sacred space to connect with your intentions. Pick a place in your home (or even digitally if you\u2019re tight on space\/don\u2019t want an altar out), and decorate it with pieces that mean something to you. Don\u2019t overthink it – whatever calls to you is perfect. On my 2024 altar I\u2019ve place my goddess of the year, animal of the year, a card to embody, some crystals that called to me, items to represent air, fire, earth, and water, as well as a few items that I was intuitively called to adding.<\/li>\n\n
  5. Create a Vision Board<\/strong>: If you\u2019re a visual person (or honestly even if you\u2019re not) creating a vision board or refreshing the vision board you have going is a lovely way to invite the renewal of the year into your manifestations. Grab images, words, feelings of what you\u2019re calling in and plop them into a board (digital or physical). Put it where you\u2019ll see it often. This can be a really fun ritual to do each year. Grab your supplies, a fun drink, snacks, and get cozy tuning into your dreams.<\/li>\n\n
  6. Clean your Space<\/strong>: There is nothing better than a clean, fresh space to support you in the new year. Soul time (the time from Yule to Ostara) is a time to prepare ourselves for reemerging into the world with fire and passion – but before we get there, now it\u2019s a good time to refresh your energy and that energy includes your physical space. Declutter, clean, use smoke cleansing, or even simmer pots<\/a> to renew the energy of your home.<\/li>\n\n
  7. Intention Setting Ceremony<\/strong>: Now we can pull everything we\u2019ve done so far together into an intentional reset ceremony. This can be as simple as sitting in front of your altar\/vision board and sending energy from your heart space to your intentions and from your intentions to your heart space. It could be doing a meditation or saying a prayer\/meaningful words. During my ceremony I tuned into each item on my altar as well as my word of the year and invited them to guide me throughout the new year.  <\/li><\/ol>

    A spiritual reset offers a profound opportunity to step into the new year with purpose and positivity without feeling overwhelmed by the \u2018new year, new me\u2019 mentality of the world. You deserve a space to rest and refill your cup – but if you\u2019re in the mood to dive into fresh year energy, I hope some of these rituals help you on your path.<\/p>
